“On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.” – Psalm 145:5
Scripture reading: Psalm 139:1-24
Yesterday, you received an invitation to worship God by comparing Him to great things, for He is greater. Do you remember the word Scripture uses for God’s greatness? Did you catch the word majesty in today’s highlighted passage?
Today we will consider another way to respond to the invitation to worship and trust God for his majesty. We can remove from our thoughts any limits that we’ve put on God. We naturally make God smaller so our minds can contain Him, but we need to fight this.
Think of Psalm 139. Verses 1-4 speak of God having no limit to His knowledge of us. God knows when we sit and when we rise. He knows what we’ll say before we speak. There is no part of us hidden from Him. Verse 7 asks, “Where can I flee from [God’s] presence?” God is so big that He is everywhere! We cannot leave Him. He is with you now. Verses 13-16 speak of how God designed our bodies in amazing and complex ways; we are fearfully and wonderfully made. This shows His great creative power and intellect. Verses 17-18 say that God’s thoughts are greater than the sand. It is estimated that there are 7.5 quintillion grains of sand on earth: 7,500,000,000,000,000,000 (18 zeros). Yet, humans have an estimated 165,199,000 thoughts in their lifetime.
Indeed, God is great! Let the Holy Spirit write this truth upon your soul. Put your trust in God, who is greater than you. Get ready and worship Him.
Suggestions for prayer
Ask God to search your heart and know your thoughts and show you where you need to make God greater. Praise Him for the glorious splendour of His majesty.
