“The LORD reigns; he is robed in majesty.” – Psalm 93:1
Scripture reading: Isaiah 40:9-31
When you receive an invitation to a birthday party, what kinds of things do you do to get ready? Buy a gift and write a card? Today and tomorrow, we will look at an invitation given to us from Scripture. When we read the word “majesty,” it is an invitation to worship God and to trust Him.
Majesty in Scripture is not a title for royalty, like “His Majesty the King.” Rather, it is from Latin, meaning “greatness.” After reading an invitation to worship God for His majesty or His greatness, how does one “get ready”?
Compare God with anything great that you know, for God is always greater. Isaiah did this in Isaiah 40. Isaiah recalled God’s work in creation, holding the oceans and weighing the mountains. No human can do this. Isaiah thought of the powerful nations around him, yet God has defeated many nations – Egypt, Jericho, and the Philistines, to name a few. God is so much bigger than the world that the people on earth seem like grasshoppers to Him (a bug my cat eats for fun). Isaiah looks at great world leaders (think of Sennacherib, Napoleon, or Hitler), but God brings them all to nothing. Finally, consider the stars. The distance of the nearest star is 40 trillion km away, and it takes 4 years and 3 months for its light to reach Earth. God put this star in its place and called it by name!
Teach your mind to make God great. Worship the majestic, incomparable God.
Suggestions for prayer
Compare God to something great that you know, then praise Him for being greater. Ask God to teach your mind to make Him great.
