“They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment.
You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but you are the same, and your years have no end.” – Psalm 102:26-27
Scripture reading: Psalm 102:1-28
If you haven’t seen your Grandma for a while, what is she likely to say to you when you see her again? “Look at how much you’ve grown!” We, humans, are constantly changing. We age. The Holy Spirit sanctifies the believers’ character, making us more like Christ. Both our understanding of God’s word and our love for Him grow. We may start a new career or make another decision that changes our daily habits. Yet, God never changes.
God’s life never changes. He always existed. He does not grow stronger with each battle He wins. He is not worn out at the end of a long day. As He experiences more things, He does not become wiser. The God who spoke to Abraham is the same God of the early church, and the same God today and forevermore.
At different times in our lives, we are close friends with different people. You may not even know today the people you once regularly played with at the playground. Yet God’s covenantal relationship with His people never changes. His love for them is steadfast.
God’s word never changes; it is truth. We can trust that what God says will always be true. Sometimes parents’ decisions change based on how hungry or tired they are, but this is not so with God. He never acts out of character. His purpose for history does not change. God does not change.
Suggestions for prayer
Praise God for His trustworthiness and faithfulness, and for always being so. Pray to obey Him with faith. Ask for eyes to see God today as the same God of the bible.
