“to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.” – Romans 8:6

Scripture reading: Romans 8:1-11 (or all)

Yesterday we pictured what it would be like to go from being an orphan to a child of God. This new relationship changes a believer’s life. You may be wondering how. What things do you think would change? We’ll consider a few together today.

First, God gives His children His Holy Spirit who lives within them. The Holy Spirit makes all of God’s promises a personal experience for the believer. He makes the believer’s character more like Christ’s. He gently heals and corrects the believer’s thinking. God’s children learn to trust their Father and experience peace from worries and fears. God’s children learn to have hope anchor their souls as they look forward to heaven with excitement. They know heaven is their promised inheritance. They will share in glory with Christ. They will be completely like Jesus – not just physically, but also in mind and character. Heaven will be a joyous family gathering. Even today, the Holy Sprit energies the believer to do God’s will and gives them words and talents to do good works for God’s glory. He gives them satisfaction in their work.

Furthermore, God’s children are eager to talk with God. The Father always hears when they speak, so the children do not talk mechanically. They do not try to pressure their Father into doing something for them. Rather they pray, trusting Him and with a sure knowledge of His loving feelings towards them. It is an enjoyable conversation.

Suggestions for prayer

Believer, enjoy praying to your Heavenly Father. Use words from Romans 8 to guide you. Unbeliever, pray for new life in the Holy Spirit.
