“and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, … making peace by the blood of His cross.” – Colossian 1:20

Scripture reading: Exodus 12:1-13

Sometimes my son’s room is so dirty that I can’t walk from the door to his bed. If I could make it to his bed without injury, there is no space to sit beside him to talk and pray before he sleeps. This is a picture of someone before he is a believer. God desires a relationship with His people, but He can’t approach them because their sin is repulsive.

Sometimes, cleaning a bedroom is too large of a task for kids to do on their own. Likewise, we cannot cleanup the mess of our sin. I need to help my kids clean their room. God the Son became human to save us from our sins. He didn’t just hide them under the bed. He didn’t take them to the recycling centre to come back later. He took them as far away as the east is from the west. They are gone. Believers’ sins are forgiven. He puts our beautiful treasures on display and sets our talents where they can readily used.

Jesus’s blood on the cross was like the blood that the Israelites put around the door frame of their houses at the first Passover. When the LORD saw the blood, He passed by and all inside were spared from God’s wrath. When God sees a person’s faith, He sees Jesus’ blood and His wrath is turned away. Instead, He draws near to have a relationship with His child.

Suggestions for prayer

Unbeliever, ask for Jesus to come and take away your sin; ask for faith. Believer, ask for a deeper relationship with God.
