Scripture reading: 1 Corinthians 1:18-31
Wisdom is not only using your intelligence, cleverness and power to choose the best goal, but also to choose the right way of getting there. What does this mean? Let’s say you want to celebrate Thanksgiving. Your goal is to have the best event. Is it a meal or volunteering? Who would come? Then you need a plan to make it happen. What can you afford, considering your time and money? When and how will you invite people? Our plans require wisdom, but there are lots that can go wrong. People make bad choices, and sometimes things are out of our control.
God’s plans never fail. He is never surprised. He is all-powerful. Yet, when bad things happen, people often question God’s goal. His goal is not to make our fallen world a happy, comfortable place. Rather, His goal is for people to see God as their all-in-all – to see His saving love for them and for people to respond in thankful love to Him. God wants people to praise Him with words and by obeying Him. He wants us to enjoy both Him and His world. These are His ultimate goals.
God chose the right way of making this goal happen. He sent Jesus to take the punishment of death that we deserve for all the wrong we do. Then Jesus defeated death by rising from the dead. Now, believers are forgiven by God and have a forever relationship with Him. God is wise in both his goal and the way He attains it.
Suggestions for prayer
Ask for forgiveness of the wrong you do and ask Jesus to save you. Thank God and ask Him to increase your love for Him.
