Darren Doane is best known for Collision, about debates between pastor Douglas Wilson and atheist Christopher Hitchens, and The Free Speech Apocalypse, about Pastor Wilson’s talk at a hostile campus about God’s view on sexuality. Both are awesome, but if you’re expecting this to be like them, you might be disappointed.
This is a more modest effort, and, strange to say since we’re talking about guns, not nearly as controversial. Doane is trying to reach out to others like him who believe law-abiding citizens should have the right to bear arms…but who are scared of guns.
Guns scare me too, but this did a lot to convince me that I should learn how to use them responsibly. They can be lethal, but I already have a tool that can cause just as much damage – my car – but because I’ve been trained, I’m not worried about having that in my house.
One criticism: the director is Christian, and the people he talks to are Christian, but a Christian perspective hardly comes out. Mention is made of the importance of being a protector, but that’s about it. That aside, this would be a very fun one to watch with a large group of friends. It’ll get some interesting conversations going.
