“And he said, “May you be blessed by the LORD, my daughter.”” – Ruth 3:10a

Scripture reading: Ruth 3:6-13

How Ruth’ s heart must have sung at those first words from Boaz in response to her request to take shelter under his wings. He says,. “May you be blessed, Ruth!” In part Boaz is thinking back to all that Ruth has done for Naomi. He had said it to her back in chapter 2:11 “All that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband has been fully told to me, and how you left your father and mother and your native land and came to a people that you did not know before.”

Boaz had noticed Ruth’s godly character, as had everyone else in town. He goes on in verse 11 of chapter 3, “For all my fellow townsmen know that you are a worthy woman.” She’s not putting herself first. She’s not blowing her own trumpet. She’s become a servant. A servant whose love extends so far as to do everything that’s necessary to provide for a bitter and grumpy mother-in-law.

Indeed, Ruth, may you be blessed by the LORD!

Ladies, we need to pause to ask: as recipients of God’s covenant love, as those who have had your Redeemer spread His wings over you, is your love towards others so well known that others in your church know you as a “worthy woman”? Will others say of you “May you be blessed by the LORD”?

Pray for the sisters of your congregation that they may, in the power of the Holy Spirit, be worthy women who are blessed by the LORD.
