“I know my own and my own know me.” – John 10:14

Scripture reading: John 10:1-18

Maybe you have experienced the awkward situation of approaching a door at the same time as someone else. The door is only wide enough for one person to go through at a time, and you must decide who will go through first.

When it comes to knowing God, He always goes first. God knows you – how you think and learn. God reveals Himself personally to individuals in a way that they understand. He uses Scripture, preaching, creation, and life experiences. He is complex, but He lets Himself be known by humans, even young children. God gives knowledge of Himself.

Many Christians are deeply comforted knowing that God knows them completely. God’s great love for them is based on His full knowledge of them at their worst. God isn’t going to realise something terrible about a believer and then no longer love them. He knows His people, and He loves them. God’s people are graven on His hands; they are always on His mind. God always loves and cares for His people. Being known by God yet faithfully loved by Him fuels a believer’s heart to worship and adore God.

For some unfathomable reason, God wants people to be His people. He desires a relationship with them, so much so that He has given His Son to die in their place in order to allow this fellowship with Him to happen. Let God make Himself be known by you. Deepen and delight in your relationship with God.

Suggestions for prayer

Praise God for knowing you and loving you. Ask God to go before you and lead you to more knowledge of Him, to a deeper understanding of Him, to a life of wisdom in communion with Him.
