The Reformers Resistance: John Knox

As we head towards Reformation Day later this month…

For separation vs. Against separation

Alberta’s separation referendum vote happens on Monday, so here’s two last takes to consider – a couple of Christians trying to make Christian cases – Pastor Tim Stephens arguing for separation, and businessman Alex Barendregt arguing against.

Face of the NBA says he’ll never accept gambling money

It’s impossible to watch an NHL hockey game, or an NBA basketball game, on TV without getting blitzed by gambling ads. And whether it’s former or current athletes, the players are in on it, making big money off of people’s misery by steering regular joes to where they can lose next month’s mortgage payment, or this week’s grocery money. It’s just so mean.

So it was wonderful when at least one prominent athlete – Victor Wembanyama was last season’s Defensive Player of the Year in the NBA, and may well be this year’s MVP – took a stand against accepting gambling money:

“I will never do that. Honestly, I think it’s very sad to see some players promote it.”

AI child porn and the libertarian lie

The Christian argument against pornography is that it is a sin against the 7th Commandment. But Christians are, generally, too embarrassed to condemn something simply because God does. So instead of pointing to the root problem – rebellion against God – we’ll point to the rotten fruits of rebellion. In the case of pornography there is lots of fruit to point to, with the worst of it being the harm done to the victims shown in child pornography.

But now, with the advent of AI-generated pornography, that reason is gone because there are no real children involved.

Should we point to the other rotten fruit then? We know that the consumers of this filth are harming themselves.

We could do that. Or, instead of skipping over the root problem, we could point to it first – we could speak as unabashed Christians proud of our Heavenly Father and His wisdom – and then build on that. Yes, we can point to the poison fruit too, but we’d point to it as the offshoot of the real heart problem going on here: that if we embrace the gift of sex in ways God warns us against, we separate ourselves from Him to our own great harm. And to the great harm of our entire society.

Has Noah’s Ark been found?

My social media feed is sharing that claim in all sorts of articles and videos – there’s been quite the buzz. But if Answers in Genesis’s Ken Ham has his doubts, then I do too.

Bjorn Lomborg on “Where have all the climate alarmists gone?”

Bjorn Lomborg is a homosexual agnostic but what he holds in common with Christians is the belief that man is the pinnacle of creation. Even though he believes global warming is happening, he also believes that efforts aimed at “saving the planet” that hurt the people living on that planet are misguided, so he recognizes that good intentions are not the way to measure a policy.
