Norwegians could look up what their neighbor makes… and it made lower income folk sadder
The 10th Commandment tells us not to covet our neighbor’s stuff and because God commands it that’s all the reason we should need for obeying it. But obeying God’s law is also good for us, as this article highlights. When Norwegians were given an online tool that made it easy to look up their neighbor’s taxable income, doing so seems to have made higher income folk happier, but made lower income people sadder. Why? I’ll admit to some mind-reading here, but I don’t think it’s a leap to say their sadness came from wanting and not having what their neighbor has – they were sad because they were coveting.
Is Kansas really richer than Canada? (15-min read)
A couple years back Jordan Peterson said that the richest province in Canada is poorer than the poorest state in the US, and while that’s “not quite accurate… it’s more exaggeration than mistruth.”
While that’s what the numbers might say, it’s only part of the story. To get a better overview, the folks over at CARDUS did something fun. They swapped an American from Kansas with a Canadian from Ontario and then had them report back on what they found.
Liberal’s “hate speech” law already having a chilling effect
A month ago the Edmonton Police Services tweeted out a post urging people to “report online hate”:
“You typed it. Someone lived it. Online hate isn’t ‘just a comment.’ It hurts real people and harms real communities. Hate has no home here.”
What does this matter? Well, as Jonathon Van Maren writes: “the Carney government has a very expansive view of hate speech, and includes ‘deadnaming’ — that is, using a trans-identifying person’s pre-transition name online — as an example of ‘gender-based violence.’”
The huge difference between worldly sorrow and godly grief
Is someone sad only because they’ve been caught? Or are they grieved over their sins and the wrongs they’ve committed against God and man? Both kinds of sorrow can include tears, so as Chris Brauns explains, they can seem quite alike.
