What is the global warming debate really about?
It might be helpful to start by saying what the debate is not about and what facts people on both sides of the debate can agree on. Both sides acknowledge that the Earth’s climate is changing; it is always changing anhas been both hotter and colder in the past. Most are also agreed that in the last 100 years the Earth’s average surface temperature has risen 0.7 °C.
What is up for dispute is how much of this warming is caused by man, whether it is harmful, whether we can do anything to stop it, and, if we can, whether we should try.
