The following 5 clips total just 10 minutes of viewing. But how would these work as conversation starters? Could one of these be a great video to share with a friend, family member, or neighbor as the springboard to a great, long conversation?
WHO IS THE UNBORN? (30 seconds)
The closer we look at the world around us, the harder it is to evade God’s Truth (Romans 1:20, Psalm 19:1). Here, in a 30-second clip featured on a secular news sites around the world, the fact that the unborn are precious human beings is made obvious. Now, our value doesn’t come from what we can do – it comes from in Whose Image we are made. But even for who deny that truth, this clip makes it hard for them to deny that this baby is in fact a baby, because this active, energetic (mom is going to feel that!) unborn and unprotected child is busy showing off his many abilities.
WHAT IS ART? (4 minutes)
Nate Wilson wrote and produced a “bookumentary” called Notes from the Tilt-A-Whirl which does an amazing job of opening Christians’ eyes to the wonder all around us. God is an artist, and the fact that we aren’t going around saying “Wow!’ and “Unbelievable!” all the time is only because we have lost the ability to really see. Wilson helps us regain a little of our vision here, with one of the “chapters” from his bookumentary.
CLIMATE CHANGE: WHAT ABOUT THE POOR? (2 minutes)
In April Reformed Perspective will conduct a speaking tour in Alberta and Ontario with Dr. E. Calvin Beisner of the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation. He and his group were behind the production of a documentary called Where the Grass is Greener: Biblical Stewardship vs. Climate Alarmism, from which this is a clip. While the Cornwall Alliance has many questions regarding Global Warming, in this clip they sidestep the whole issue of whether, and to what degree, warming is happening, and address how Climate Change policies will impact the poor. This is a topic that rarely gets raised by Climate Change proponents. But their policies, designed to help the planet, also have downsides (if they didn’t, why would anyone waste their time opposing them?). So whatever we might think about Climate Change, all Christian should be able to agree that the poor, and how these policies will impact them, should not be overlooked.
HOMOSEXUALITY IS NOT MY IDENTITY (3 minutes)
Sam Allberry, the author of Is God anti-gay? spoke to the Church of England’s General Synod this past week. He raised the issue of identity and noted that while he has same-sex attractions, that does not make him homosexual. He does not find his identity in sexuality. This is powerful stuff!
HOW CAN I EXPLAIN SIN TO AN UNBELIEVER? (1 minute)
Sometimes sinners will dispute the obvious and then we have to be cautioned by Proverbs 26:4, where God warns us: “Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you will be like him.” If we treat a foolish question with respect, acting as if it really is a legitimate concern, then to onlookers we can look as foolish as the questioner. For example, if someone were to say, “Prove to me gravity exists!” the exact wrong sort of response would be, “That’s a really good question – let me think about that.” In this clip Dr. RC Sproul is asked how to explain to a sinner that sin really exists. That fact sin exists is written on this unbeliever’s heart (Romans 2:15) so he knows better and this is a question along the lines of “Prove to me gravity exists.” Then RC Sproul shows how not to answer a fool in his folly – his answer treats the questions with the amount of respect it is due. Brilliant!
